About Primary Immune Deficiency (PI)

Primary Immune Deficiency (PI), or inborn errors of immunity, are a group of genetic disorders that are associated with recurrent infections, autoimmunity, and malignancy.

Diagnosis of PI is often delayed, with an average time frame of 12.5 years from the onset of symptoms until a diagnosis. Fortunately, treatment options exist for PI to help children and adults lead a more normal life.

Earlier diagnosis of PI leads to better treatment of disease and quality of life. Duke Children’s, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with PI.
